PHR®/SPHR® Certification Preparation

Overview

This program is designed to prepare students for the Professional Human Resources (PHR®) and Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR®) examinations*. Using the SHRM Learning System™ which is included in the cost of tuition, participants review the six functional areas, responsibilities and associated knowledge as defined by the HR Certification Institute. UMBC Training Centers has a 72% pass rate for the PHR® certification exam.

Besides being an effective way to prepare for the PHR and SPHR certification exams, the SHRM Learning System also provides professional development for you and your HR Department with content that is updated with the latest HR policies and legislation. The course provides a solid foundation for managing the HR challenges you face in today's demanding work environment; is supplies a current reference of HR practices, broadens the perspective of functional specialists, and strengthens individual competencies and productivity.

* Note to HR Professionals Seeking PHR/SPHR Certification during the Winter Exam Window, December 2014 - January, 2015:

SHRM is moving from providing the PHR/SPHR certification to providing the SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP: however, SHRM supports your decision to prepare for and take the current exam for the existing credentials. If you pass the PHR/SPHR exam, you will be eligible to receive the new SHRM credential free of charge, between January 1st and December 31st, 2015.

During this period, you will be invited to obtain the new SHRM certification by completing the following process:
  • Document that your current certification is in good standing
  • Sign the SHRM code of ethics
  • Complete a brief online tutorial on HR competencies.
Once this process is completed, you will receive the new SHRM credential and will begin a three-year recertification cycle.

If you do not pass your exam prior to January 2015 and you purchased the current SHRM Learning System, SHRM will provide the new Learning System for the new SHRM certification, free of charge, in preparation for the new assessment.
