Positive Displacement Pumps

Overview

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts used to describe and understand positive displacement pumps and the systems into which they are installed. The student will learn and quantify basic hydraulic terms including flow, various forms of pressure, efficiency, power, and net positive suction head. This is followed with an in-depth discussion of the different styles of positive displacement pumps and their characteristic curves. Finally, the course will cover required accessories for proper installation, basic packing and mechanical seal technology, and concept of accuracy.

The course consists of the following 3 modules:
1.       Pump and Hydraulic Principals
2.       Positive Displacment Pump Fundamentals
3.       Positive Displacment Pump Installation and Operations

This course can be used for 1 hour of continuing education credit toward a professional engineering license in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and other states. If you have questions about a specific state, please contact pumps@umbctraining.com.

Audience

Plant and or engineering personnel who design, operate, maintain or install positive displacement pumping systems.

Class Format and Schedule

This is a self-paced course. Students access the course lessons through UMBC Training Centers' Web-based Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS).

To complete the course, the student must complete each learning module and then pass the final test at the end of the course. This course is 1 hour of training, but students may stop at any point within the course and continue working later. Students will have 90 days from the date of course registration to complete the course.

System Requirements

To complete this course, students will need to use a personal computer with a current Web browser and reliable high speed Internet access.

Price includes access to the Online Course Materials for up to 90 days.

Due to the self-paced nature of this course and the student having access to the course content 24 hours a day for 90 days, students enrolled in this course are not eligible to audit a future session.
